Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and AI Detector ("the Service", "we", "us"). By using this tool, including by creating an account, checking the acceptance box at signup, or otherwise accessing or using the Service, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

The Data Processing Addendum at /dpa is incorporated into these Terms by reference. It applies to personal data we process on your behalf, for example personal data contained in content you submit for detection.

2. Disclaimer

The Service runs a zero-shot multi-detector engine that estimates the statistical likelihood that text was generated by a language model. Detection results are probabilistic. They are not a determination of fact, they do not prove or disprove authorship, and they must not be used as the sole basis for an accusation, an academic penalty, a hiring decision, or a published claim about who wrote something.

You are responsible for how you use the Service and its results. We accept no responsibility for: (a) any academic fraud, misrepresentation of AI-generated work as human-authored, plagiarism, or any violation of academic, legal, regulatory, workplace, or platform rules; (b) any action taken by a third party, including a reviewer, institution, publisher, or platform, based on the results; or (c) any consequences arising from the inherent false positives and false negatives of AI-text detection.

You represent and warrant that you will not use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law, including AI-transparency obligations such as the EU AI Act (Article 50) and California SB 942. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for any direct or indirect loss, damage, claim, or proceeding arising out of your use of the Service or reliance on its results.

3. The Service

The Service detects whether text is likely to be AI-generated. It runs a suite of zero-shot signals — likelihood, entropy, logrank, perplexity, DetectGPT, Fast-DetectGPT, Binoculars and DetectLLM — and fuses them into a verdict with a per-detector breakdown. It is provided "as is" and is free to use within the daily quota.

• The fused verdict is a statistical estimate with an explicit uncertainty framing; it is not a certificate of authorship.
• Detection is affected by text length, genre, editing and rewriting. There is no guaranteed-accuracy setting.
• No detector can certify that a human wrote something, and a clean score does not prove a text is not AI-generated.
• The Service is a neutral analysis tool. It is not for academic fraud, misrepresentation, or passing AI output off as human writing.

4. Eligibility and age

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you are 18 or older. We may refuse service, restrict access, or terminate accounts of under-age users without notice.

5. Content you submit

You represent and warrant that you own the content you submit or have the legal right, license, or permission to process it, and that your use of the Service does not violate any third-party rights, including copyright, trademark, or privacy rights.

You are solely responsible for what you upload and for how you use the results. In the event of any infringement or other third-party claim arising from your content or your use of the results, you alone are responsible for responding to and bearing such claims; in no way are we responsible for such claims.

The Service performs a best-effort statistical analysis. The text you submit is processed in memory, used to compute the detection signals, and is not retained.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to:

• Commit academic fraud, submit AI-generated or rewritten content as your own in academic, legal or regulated settings, or misrepresent AI-generated work as human-authored;
• Use the results as the sole evidence for an accusation, an academic penalty, or a public claim about authorship, given the inherent false positives and false negatives of detection;
• Impersonate others, facilitate deception, fraud, or misinformation, or mislead any person that AI-generated content is human-generated;
• Violate applicable law, including AI-transparency obligations such as the EU AI Act (Article 50) and California SB 942, or the policies of your employer or educational institution;
• Upload content that infringes the intellectual-property or privacy rights of any third party;
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, or automate access to the hosted Service beyond normal, interactive use;
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, abuse, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.

7. Email and quota

A valid email address is required to use the Service. The email is used to enforce a free daily quota, to prevent abuse, and to operate the Service. See the Privacy Policy for details. We never sell your email.

8. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Detection results are not guaranteed to be accurate, and no output is guaranteed to be error-free or suitable for any particular use. You assume all risk for your use of the Service and its results.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI Detector shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or relating to your use of the Service. Because the Service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of these Terms shall not exceed US$100 (or the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, if any).

This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages and regardless of the legal theory on which any claim is based.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless AI Detector and its owners, affiliates, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from or related to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any applicable law or regulation; or (d) your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual-property rights.

11. Open source and intellectual property

The detection engine is open source. You can inspect, self-host and audit it at any time. These Terms govern your use of the hosted Service; they do not restrict your rights under the engine's license.

We make no claim of ownership over the content you submit, and you retain ownership of your inputs and outputs. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely to provide the Service.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use them for any purpose.

12. Termination and suspension

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, delete your account, or block IP addresses, in our sole discretion and without notice or liability, for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms, or that continued service is not in the public interest. You may stop using the Service at any time.

13. Copyright and takedowns

If you believe that material processed or available through the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us with the following information: your signature (electronic or physical); identification of the copyrighted work and the allegedly infringing material, with enough detail to locate it; your contact information; a statement of good-faith belief that the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information you provided is accurate and that you are the rights-holder or authorized to act on their behalf. You may be held accountable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees, for misrepresentations in a takedown notice.

14. Export and sanctions compliance

You may not use the Service in violation of applicable export-control or economic-sanctions laws (including US OFAC and EU sanctions). By using the Service you represent that you are not located in, or acting on behalf of, a sanctioned jurisdiction or a person or entity subject to sanctions, and that your use complies with all applicable export-control and sanctions regulations.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. Where permitted by law, you waive the right to participate in any class action arising from these Terms.

16. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, even if you receive no separate notice.

17. General

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the Service regarding its subject matter. We may assign these Terms, in whole or in part, at any time without notice.
